Treatment Process

Treatment Process

Initial consultations are scheduled after a brief introduction over phone or email to determine if it would be appropriate to work together.

The following is helpful for me to know either in advance or at the time of our initial consultation:

  • An overview of the health concern you want help with including a timeline of when it started and other life events that preceded or coincided with the health concern.
  • What treatments you have already used and what has been helpful or not.
  • What makes the problem better or worse.
  • Current diet and exercise habits.
  • Significant health history that may not pertain to the current condition but that I should know about.
  • Providing me your medical records pertaining to the condition for which you are seeking help.
  • A list of your current medications, supplements, or herbs and the dosages.
  • Your questions for me.
Initial Consultation

Our first visit will last 2 hours. I’ll want to hear about your story, what your treatment goals are, what significant past and current life experiences you feel are impacting your health. I will ask questions, use Chinese diagnostic methods such as taking your pulse and observing your tongue, and learn as much as I can about you so I can give you recommendations that are appropriate for you. For health concerns that are not complex, the initial consultation may include a more brief discussion followed by an acupuncture treatment. Follow up email or phone discussion to clarify any questions about the treatment plan are included in the initial consultation process. I invite any questions or concerns you may have.

Your Treatment Plan

After our initial consultation I will create a customized treatment plan for you. Your plan may include care with acupuncture, herbs, supplements, nutritional guidelines, recommended exercise and life-style changes, additional testing should the cause of the problem be unclear, as well as referrals for other appropriate health care treatments. Your participation in healthy living is always encouraged.

My treatment plan for you will be integrated with other treatments you may already be receiving including western medical care. I’m careful to make sure my recommendations for herbs and supplements don’t interfere with your medications. When researching options for your healthcare needs, I frequently read current medical literature including international medical articles for new treatments that may be helpful.
